The Story of John & Christian Bethune of Richmond Co., NC and 200 years in the lives of their descendants
736 pages, 6 x 9", hardcover, acid-free paper, photographs, illlustrations, index
Spreading Branches and Rambling Roots follows the descendants of John and Christian Bethune across 200 years, 10 generations, and a continent. It is the only book ever written about this particular family. Included with the story are several family documents, such as John and Christian's Bible pages with names and dates of birth for themselves as well as their children, and a copy of John's Last Will and Testament. Along with a family tree for direct descendants there are also family trees for several allied families, 173 pictures of various descendants as well as numerous marriage, census and death records, Bible pages, and letters.
Scattered throughout the book are various stories of the Bethune Family passed down through the generations, some written by the descendants themselves. One very special article was written by Frances Imogene Slade, the oldest living descendant of John and Christian Bethune.
Read about Allen Bethune's journey to Tennessee and his widow's pilgrimage through the old west after his death, the death of his sister Catharine Bethune Bruton and how her descendants settled in Louisiana. Where are the descendants of John and Christian Bethune 200 years later? The book answers that question and provides information on the descendants still in North Carolina, many of which are unaware of their connection to the family.
Meet Levi T. Branham a City Marshall in Oklahoma Territory. Duncan C. Currie, considered by many to have the gift of healing. Charles Edgar Whisenant, listed in the "Arkansas Times Almanac" as "one of the people that have made the Natural State famous." Robert R.
