The Carmack name with various spellings has Irish and Scottish roots.

The first Carmacks in the Colonies, starting in the 17th century. Settled first in Maryland and New Jersey and them some moved south and others moved west. The book contains more than 3400 names. It includes some biographic material on some of the family members. While all the families are not followed, some are extended to the 12th generation.
