This History and Genealogy of the Fyler-Filer Family has taken 20 years to assemble. After the first book, which was printed in 1967, I felt "all was complete" other than families adding current data to their lines. Not so...as people read the book, their interest in the family increased, and slowly data came to me with their additions, corrections, etc. It became apparent that a supplement was needed. It was decided that rather than print a book with references to the original book as to new information, typographical errors, etc., plus a more simplified numbering system, it would behoove me to write a new book with the new and correct data also. As the family names became interwoven, I felt I should carry on the Fyler-Filer blood lines and also show their ancestors as well as their descendants.
This book contains information I have gleaned from many sources; Stiles History of Ancient Windsor, Orcutt's History of Torrington, East Hampton History, Windsor Cemetery listing, Colonial Records of Connecticut, The Connecticut Nutmegger, History of Massachusetts, The Genealogical Helper, many Family Genealogies, tombstones, letters sent to me with family data, census data, encyclopedias, and history books. I do not pretend to be a professional, but I have tried to be as accurate as possible.
Through these hears of compiling this data for you, I too have lived...raising two children...and now have two grandchildren, with all the trials and tribulations... and the proud moments...the tears of joy...the tears of sadness...just as you, the reader, have doen through your lifetime. I have included interesting data about some of these people who are no longer with us in body, hoping that you will see them as real people, who also lived, died, loved, married, had children, suffered, cried, laughed, protected and governed our County, did heroic deeds, worked, played, and prayed, just as you and I do today.
I have compiled this book because I am proud of my Family Name, my Heritage...what my family has contributed to my County.
