417 pages, 6 x 9", hardcover, photographs, illustrated, indexed
Originally published in 1889, we reprinted an exact copy, on very fine long lasting paper, of this initial effort, from the mid to late 1800s of our greatgrandfather and others. It includes space and a code for updating the contents.
The art work (ten full page drawings, lithographs and etchings) were beautifully reproduced and the remainder of the contents is identical to the original 417 pages, listing eight generations of descendants of five early settlers in New England. They were John and William Goodrich, young brothers who settled in the Hartford/Wethersfield/Rocky Hill area of Connecticut about 1643. There are additional sections on Richard Goodrich, Guilford, Conn., 1639; William Goodridge, Watertown, Mass., 1642; and Thomas Goodrich, Bennington, VT., 1772. There is a section entitled "A Visit to Goodrich Castle", a history of the Goodrich name and family in England, an index of first names for both men and women, and of family names of those who married Goodrichs and are included in the genealogy. The remainder of the original book includes the names, birth and death dates, when known, and children of each of the settlers, some of whom are traced for up to eight generations. The index lists 2300 names.
Some prominent names: B.F. Goodrich, Chauncey Goodrich, Samuel Goodrich (Peter Pauper) and others. One was with the Lewis & Clark Expedition, our great grandfather, Grant Goodrich was one of the founders of Chicago and occassionally practiced law with Abe Lincoln on his "circuit" through Illinois.
