Fifty years after Dr. Max E Hoffman published The Hoffmans of North Carolina an update is available! The Hoffmans of North Carolina Revisited begins with Wilhelm Hoffman (1285-1350) who was born in Prague, brings us through his great-grandson Johann (1371-1451) who served as Rector of The University of Leipzig and with a database of 22,000 names brings us to the present day with descendants of those Hoffmans who settled in North Carolina in the mid 1700s.

Read about the three Hoffman brothers and their families who emigrated first to Pennsylvania and then moved on to North Carolina. 1 John Hoffman found land in the eastern part of the state, now Alamance County. Numbered among his progeny is Governor Charles B. Aycock (1859-1912). Read about his numerous descendants who moved west in the settlement of our great nation.

1 Jacob Hoffman moved to the South Fork River Valley in what is now Gaston County. Read about and see the picture of the dam built about 1790 across that river and about the two mills owned and operated by his two sons, 2 Jacob and 2 "Rich John."

1 George Hoffman, ancestor of most Burke and Catawba County Hoffmans and Huffmans, settled in Catawba County west of his brothers. He braved a frontier of bears, wolves and Indians to create a new life for his family. Read about grandson Maj. George Hoffman and the house he built that's still standing after 200 years.
