Abel Lodge (1770-1839) and Tacy Bangham: Ancestors and Descendants

804 pages, 6 x 9", hardcover, photographs and illustrations, indexed.

Abel Lodge, the son of Jozabad Lodge and Catharine Strange, married Tacy Bangham, the daughter of Humphrey Bangham and Elizabeth Carey, near Lynchburg, Campbell County, Virginia, in 1795. In 1804 Abel and Tacy moved, with their children, to Columbiana County, Ohio. About the same time, Abel's brother Jonathan Lodge and Tacy's married sisters Mary Ferrall and Martha James also removed to Columbiana County as did the parents of the three Bangham sisters. One of the book's eight chapters is devoted to Abel and Tacy (Bangham) Lodge, their eight children, and later generations. Information regarding Abel's and Tacy's siblings and the descendants of these siblings is included in other chapters.

The remaning seven chapters pertain to Abel's and Tacy's ancestors. The primary surnames of their ancestral families and the localities associated with them are as follows: BANGHAM (England), Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Ohio), CAREY (England, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio), DEVONISH (England, New Jersey), HILLIARD (New Jersey), KNIGHT (England, Pennsylvania), LODGE (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, Ohio, Iowa), PLUMLY (England, Pennsylvania), STRANGE (Delaware), and THOMAS (Pennsylvania). Five of the immigrant ancestors bearing these surnames arrived in the American Colonies in the 1670s or 1680s, three more had come by the mid-1720s, and the last one arrived in 1767.

The book includes 55 pages of research notes documenting all major facts, an 11 page bibliography, and an all-name index containing over 7600 names. It is the sixth volume of a six-volume series bearing the overall title Six Columbiana County, Ohio, Pioneer Families.

Some of the family names: Bangham, Carey, Devonish, Ferrall, Fisher, Grubb, Hilliard, Humphrey(s), James, Knight, Lodge, Paxson, Plumly, Strange, Thomas.
