673 pages, 6 x 9", hardcover, photographs and illustrations, indexed.

A compilation of the genealogy and family history of Edmund Lewis for five generations, continuing then with his grandson, Samuel Lewis, for seven more generations.

Edmund Lewis and his family arrived in the Massachusetts Colony area in July 1634 on the ship Elizabeth from Ipswich, England. They initially settled in Watertown, MA, but soon moved on to Lynn, MA. Grandson Samuel, and two of his brothers, helped settle Swansea, MA. Samuel moved on to Woodbridge, NJ, with some of his family later moving westward to the Basking Ridge, NJ, area. There they became deeply involved in local, state, and national politics, and in the Revolutionary War. In the early 1800s, the family started moving westward again, stopping in the mid-Illinois area. In the late 1800s, the westward movement continued with stops in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado, and then on to California where, in 1920, Charles Henry Vreland Lewis was elected State Senator for Los Angles.
