The Mapes Family Genealogy in America: 1649-1998

2688 pages (3 volumes): 6 x 9", hardcover, acid free paper, indexed.

This set represents the known Descendants of Thomas Mapes through 1998 (1,908 pages, 2 volumes) plus other Mapes descendants (1 volume, 780 pages). The information comes from the files of the Registrars and Historians of the Mapes Family Association of NY as well as information submitted to the author, who is the present Registrar. The internet was also surveyed to provide additional information from genealogies that were previously published. Thomas Mapes (born 1628) settled in Southold, NY about 1649 and married Sarah Purrier in 1650. Their second great-grandson, Samuel Mapes, born 1735, married Mary Smith and settled in Orange County, NY. Many of his descendants remained in Orange County and provide the subjects of one of the volumes. A second volume represents the remainder of Thomas and Sarah's descendants. The third volume represents those Mapes descendants who were unconnected to Thomas' lineage at the time of publication. Associated families include many of the original settlers of Long Island and early settlers in Orange County, NY.
