This book has two parts, the first; Slagle Trails, details Jacob Slagle b. 1740s-d.1800, VA who lived near Cumberland MD and across the Potomac in nearby northern Virginia. 118 pages of narrative and documentation, include progress of the research, and the fun of clues leading back to Jacob Slagle who married Hannah Burrell and had 12 children. Also, discussed are other Slagles living in proximity during the late 1700s, the locale and historical era in Western MD. There are photographs, letters, documents as well as interesting stories such as Indian encounters, an elopement and an exorcism. Many of the 12 children migrated to Ohio and are listed in the second part of the book.
The second part: Descendants of Jacob Slagle, (b.1740-d.1800, VA) gives vital data on over 4400 names, with many notes and some photographs. This part contains a printout of the descendants of Jacob, and lists the ancestors of each descendant back to Jacob beside his or her name. It is organized by a chapter for each child of Jacob's.
There is a listing of over 50 Jacob Slagles with some data, that are connected to various Slagle lines, and Ahnentafels of spouses of three Slagles: Hyder, Beach, and Dunham some going back 20 generations.
