422 pages, 6 x 9", hardcover, acid-free paper, illustrated, 96 photographs, indexed with more than 3500 names, and includes more than 100 pages of transcribed, deeds, wills, and court documents.

Samuel Spencer of Virginia: Descendants and Related Families begins with the earliest record of Samuel Spencer of Virginia in Goochland County in 1728. It continues with Samuel's five children and their families and traces the descendants of Samuel's son, William, to present day. This book is not just a listing of family members but contains stories and histories of various family members of the more recent generations.

The book contains copies of primary source materials including Bible records from the late 1800s and histories of land transfers derived from deeds and wills. Many of the deeds and wills are transcribed in Section III. Several Virginia counties were formed from Goochland County and the reader will find information on Spencers and related families residing in Albemarle, Amherst, Buckingham, and Nelson counties.

There are major sections on the related families of Beck, Bibb, Burnett, Graves, Mills and Purvis. These families were traced from their intermarriage to the Spencer family back as many as eight generations. Other surnames appearing most frequently in the book are: Arrington, Baker, Boxley, Brown, Bryant, Cabell, Carney, Farrar, Goodwin, Harris, Hicks, Hill, Jackson, Jones, Loving, Mays, McAlexander, Miller, Moore, Morris, Schmidt, Shelton, Smith, Stevens, Wilkinson, Williams, Wills, and Wood.
