William Wiseman And The Davenports

592 pages, 7 x 10", hardcover, acid free paper, photographs, indexed.

This new and distinctive publication is extremely well researched, well documented and indexed. It is not a repeat of the "family stories and folklore." The records of WILLIAM WISEMAN (1736-1822/3 died Burke Co., NC) and 3 of his brothers-in-law, WILLIAM WHITE, Esq. (d. 1818 Burke Co., NC), MARTIN DAVENPORT (d. 1815 Burke Co., NC), & JOHN BROWNING (d. before 1818 Giles Co., TN), have been researched from Virginia to South Carolina to Old Burke County, North Carolina. These records have been put together so that it shows exactly when they were living in different locations and what they were doing.

There are letters and clues on families written by ALLAN POE, noted historian, from Caldwell County, North Carolina.

In this work is a copy of the Original Wiseman Family Ledger, thought to have been written by William himself and proving his name, his 2 wives and his 18 children. Plus, there is a copy of an original school teaching contract of 1800, proving William Wiseman to be probably the first teacher in Old Burke County, NC and the one who taught Col. William Davenport (1770-1859), his nephew of Caldwell Co., NC.

Plus, there are records on all Davenports before 1800 in Virginia and in census records of North Carolina. Also the story of the Davenports who go to Missouri. An absolute must for any Davenport researchers.

Also, never before published records of The Missionary Society of Lenoir Circuit (Caldwell Co., NC) 1844-1866 and a list of the Members of the Holloway Society 1810 to 1821 (Burke Co., NC now Caldwell Co., NC).

The ancestry of other pioneer families included are: Gabill, Baker, White, Browning, Puett, Estes, Taylor, Bradford, Hopper, Davis, Pendley, Penley, McDowell, Sherrill, Perkins, Moore, Massey, and Wilson.

This book contains all new material as prepared and researched by Maribeth Lang Vineyard
